a vintage find for my little man

watching the snow from his window

Our little man loves his books!  I have been looking for a cool "something" to store them in for his room.  Today we scored!  We found this old whiskey crate that was made in Scotland.  A weathered old piece that will add a little snap to his reading nook!

This large brass platter was a great find. And when I say large I mean it was at least 2 feet high.  Though it was only 25 dollars I passed on it because the focus was on the little man.  Wouldn't it be beautiful as a wall hanging or backdrop to a vignette?!?!  I thought so too!

  1. Whatever, girly, that crate is so cool for books! I never find anything cool like that when I shop. Everyone else finds the good stuff but I see tons of pure junk when I shop second hand. You rock, Nicole!!

  4. Glad you opted for the great whiskey box for your little guy - I'm betting that the platter will be there waiting for you, for putting the more important things first. Happy, happy Tuesday, Nicole...Tanya

  5. The fact that you passed on that gorgeous brass piece so that your little guy could have that equally gorgeous whiskey crate (I don't know if I could have chose just one, they're both pretty amazing) just means that you will find something even better down the road. Awesome find!!!

And, thank you for linking up! :)

  8. I think the vintage wooden box will be super for books or toys. I always think that it is serendipity if I go back to a store, and the thing that I loved, but passed on, is still there waiting there for me...maybe another visit to the shop with the tray is in order.

  11. The photograph of your little guy is so cute. Tugs at the heartstrings. I spent a happy hour in our independent bookstore yesterday, buying a book for my almost four yr old grandson-he loves his books too.

  12. Hi Nicole, wow! I am quite jealous of that wooden crate! We won't even discuss the brass plate...although my walls are so covered with framed art and quilts that there would be nowhere to hang it, lol! Thanks for leaving a comment the other day (sorry, I'm behind on answering my comments) on the book and calligraphy arts magazine. It really is a beautiful magazine, albeit a bit pricy (like anything good usually is) LOL!
    Hugs and talk again soon,

  15. The crate is a beautiful and perfect spot for holding your son's book collection, Nicole! As a former teacher, I can tell you that is the best thing you can do for a child is to instill a love for reading early, and it looks like you're doing a great job--well done!

  16. The crate is great. I love the idea of using it to hold books. My mother had a coffee table with a brass plate similar to the one you pictured.
