Floral Fridays.....

The theme for Floral Friday this month was to choose a favorite garden quote.  This one resonates deeply with me......

via~ Rindy Mae

Life isn't always easy.  I read a quote once that said that bloggers blow sunshine at one another and I had to chuckle a bit.  I guess we do do that but then I really started to think about it and came to my own conclusion.  I think we collectively like to find the beauty in life even when the days are dark.  A good trait among us if I do say so myself!

As September sets in I can feel the change in my garden.  Plants are dying back, seed pods are forming and my annuals are carrying the color in most places.  Little signs that the new season is upon us.

 {Turtlehead-Chelone obliqua}

I miss the newness of my garden but if I've learned one thing in life it's to embrace where you're at.  Change is bound to come.  To have bits of beauty in your life to lift the soul along the way is a pretty awesome thing.  So with that, I leave you with a song about change....

Blind Melon...Change

Make it a great one!

Floral Friday is a monthly photography project with different themes each month. This series is about fun and taking time out to smell the flowers. To play along next time, please email Trishie for next month's theme.

  1. Dear Nicole, I can relate to your garden quote quite a bit. I think that is one reason why I garden, even though I have never put it into words. I also like the other quote "bloggers blow sunshine at one another" :-)! Somehow the garden blog sphere seems to be a really friendly world and that is certainly a nice thing to be.
My garden is also not too colorful at the moment, but that will change after the heat subsides. There is at least one more rose flush in store... I was tempted to add some annuals for autumn, but decided not to so far, but plant my perennials from the pot ghetto first. That means working on a colorful garden long term and with my limited time I think that is a better approach. Remains to be seen if I can stay strong ;-)! Warm regards,
    Christina

  5. That is a great quote and so true. I find myself heading out to the garden when I'm down and somehow always find a bit more at peace after. Love your beautiful blooms. Happy weekend to you x

  6. Hi Nicole - Oh, I love your quote! Yes, stepping into the garden makes you feel that all is right in the world and how we need that feeling right now with all the craziness in the world right now. I laughed when I read the quote about bloggers - but you said it well that we collectively try to find the beauty in the world even when it is dark. There is enough darkness to go around and then some! I am in love with your blue garden gate and wreath and those 'turtle head' flowers just fascinate me! Thank you for the beautiful song and sweet flowers. Hope your weekend is beautiful. xo Karen

  7. I like that quote. I missed working in my garden this year, but next I will be able to devote all my time to it. Not as pretty as yours, but I do enjoy working in it.

  9. Hello Nicole,

What you say us so very important. We must learn to embrace the moment we are in. It will not return and it has a beauty if one seeks it out. In this modern world, we are always being seduced to want what is yet to come......the fashions of the coming season......spring when we are in the depths of winter........cosy winter nights in when we are sweltering in the summer heat.....but the here and now is where we are at and it is to be savoured.

There is a definite change in the air and one can feel a slower pace. Yes, the vibrant colour is gone but a gentler tint is taking its place. To every season there is a loveliness all of its own!

  10. Your wreath is beautiful!! I don't see any problem in blowing sunshine at each other, much better than sending insults or blows at each other surely. If everyone said nicer and kinder things what a great place the world would be. Perhaps everyone should be a nice blogger. So, in the spirit of blowing some sunshine in your direction today, I love your garden, it is looking lovely, and I love you too for being such a lovely person and a great blogger!!!!!!!!!!!!! xxxx

  17. Hey Nicole, blowing sunshine is right on the money! My day is often a lot brighter after reading your blog and those of others. Complete strangers have said the nicest kindest things to me, while people I have known for years haven't said a positive thing about anybody or anything for a very long time. It is important to find the bright, the light, the positive , it does help us with the darker harder days. Being in a garden is very restorative and reminds us of the greater scheme of things. Have a great weekend Chris

  20. I hear you on finding the beauty in life most especially when the days are dark. I mean if we can't make our own sunshine how can we make it for others. That is a great quote and so perfect for you my friend as there is always beauty in that garden of yours. Happy Friday and have a splendid weekend Nicole!

  22. I love the quote you had on your blog and the idea that bloggers blow sunshine to each other. I think you are right we do, but we also just like to be supportive of each other, and that is what friends do, they support each other through thick and thin.
    Have a beautiful weekend,

  23. On our part of the coast, we don't really see changes in the seasons weatherwise. But, there are changes to the beach that only those of us who walk the beach daily notice. The sand has been pushed up onto shore Normally we would have to climb over the jetty or walk around, but now, we can just walk right across the jetty to the other side because the sand has filled in.

We look forward to the little changes that tell us fall is here, then winter.

Enjoy these last days of good weather with the beans.

  33. Nicole, your quote is so true, as there is nothing like a garden to lift the spirits. We bloggers do tend to be an optimistic lot!

Your garden still looks fabulous to me! You have a special gift as it seems all you touch turns green and colorful, even your precious "beans!" The mums are so pretty and that "turtlehead" is new to me. I am so glad you posted the close up shot of that one so readers can actually see why it is called by that name. It really does have what looks like a turtle's head on one petal. That is awesome. Nobody can outdo God in creating interesting and wonderful things!

I enjoyed the video of Blind Melon. Their song about change is thought provoking. It is a new group for me, but you know I came from The Dark Ages, as my grands sometimes remind me!

Thanks for brightening my day, sweet Nicole!

  34. Oh, Blind Melon! OMG, you're killing me. I used to listen to them all the time. Your garden is so beautiful, in any time of year. I especially love that mum! Mine are budding but I don't think any have bloomed yet. Probably another week or so. I agree with your take on that quote about blogging. I try not to be too chirpy on my blog, but the main reason I blog is to appreciate the good things in my life. There is so much negativity and tragedy in the world and we're all touched by it to some degree. But I truly believe it's a gift to be able to focus on the good things anyway and I'm glad you're able to do it so well because I always feel good when I visit you. I hope you have a great week. :)

  41. What a lovely quote Nicole! Your garden always has a cheerful effect on me! Lovely photos of the flower.

Thanks for your words on my blog post! In New Zealand, spring had set in, and I can already see the changes in nature as I am out and about. Have a splendid week ahead!

  42. Thank you so much for the reminder of that quote. I needed it. The blowing sunshine is probably true, but I agree with you. In the midst of regular every day life, who needs or wants to look at more chaos!? It's nice to pretend everything is pretty all the time, even if it's only for a short time on the computer.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hear you, Nicole! There is nothing wrong with trying to find beauty in something, even when chaos surrounds us. I find it helpful to write about positive things. I have lots and lots of negative things that I could write about, but I just prefer to find the positives and focus on those. I can always find positives, I feel very blessed in life, even when things don't go according to plan!! There is always something, even if it's small. Here's blowing some sunshine your way Nicole, have a great weekend and thanks for a great post! xx

What a beautiful flower that turtle head flower.. is it a perennial or not??
I need your tips, I am looking for plants that can be put under trees but with a little bit of sun, as I need to plant them between my home and my neighbor. I want something natural to limit my land!!
And I have no ideas.. you are the specialist..
Have a good week end friend,

  47. Perhaps bloggers do blow sunshine at each other but it's preferable to having someone say, "You look like crap and I hate your sweater". Life can be a Lego in the foot and a pain in the ass and the news should be renamed "Depression and Stupidity on the hour, every hour". A little sunshine makes the day brighter. Sometimes we need to be reminded to just go outside and find the beauty in all the bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  48. What a wonderful quote! You are right too that as bloggers I think we try to see the beauty around us whether that is in nature, fashion, food, travel or whatever our passion may be.
