calendar cupboard

Our first bean is heading off to preschool this year so it's time to get organized!
A year ago we took out the walls on our first floor so that we could use every square inch of this place.  There was no room for a desk, but we did put in an end cupboard for storage.  I knew the day would come when we would need a calendar cupboard.  It's only about 5 inches deep and has been a complete mess up until this week.

I have researched systems and figured out that I'm kind of loosey goosey!  I'm not a chart person.  I can't have things mapped out to a T because I just don't roll that way, so I opted for areas where I can scribble, erase, hang and house a calendar to keep track of important upcoming dates.

Here is the cupboard before...

And here is our new calendar cupboard...

I painted the back wall with chalkboard paint and hung mini cork boards from Target.  Each kid has there own nook in the cabinet for their papers.

The clipboards are for my many lists.  I found a fantastic shop on Etsy with very cool stationary....Skel

And of course my bean has her spot too!

  1. Love this! What a great idea! You are getting my organizational salivary glands going :) I bought some chalkboard paint a couple months ago to paint a section in my laundry room. It's still sitting here :( Have to get my butt in gear! Thanks!

  3. Looks great. Our fridge is often covered in recipes, shopping lists, etc & I keep other dates pegged above my desk. I love making lists so often have them everywhere!

    Have a lovely end-of-week & weekend!

  6. I love your organizer. Ours is a simple chalkboard that is part of our clock. Of course, we don't have kids to schedule any longer. Preschool, how fun! I taught pre-school for several years before switching to middle school. I love that age.

  7. I need to do this - like right now...
We have this "in basket" where we put bills/etc that's urgent and requires attention and at some point just take care of the stack at once. Otherwise papers and letters etc are covering all surfaces. But I love your because you can CLOSE the door.

  8. I have never heard of a calendar cupboard before. I love the idea of keeping it shut away as notice boards etc can get messy. You have done a great job! xo

  11. Oh I love this, I am very organized and keep lists, so that is one happy cupboard for me to see! I have a little galley kitchen so the only room I had to make lists was to paint my pantry door with chalkboard paint! I love it!

  13. What a bunch of clever organizing ideas you've put together here, Nicole! I'm going to have to try out the clipboard one, because I love how you can change out what you put on it so easily to fit whatever situation you need at the time--very cool!
