Camp Rosemary

My husband and I headed north today to check out a garden that I was told I must go see by several other gardeners.  "Camp Rosemary" was designed by Rose Standish Nichols in the 1920's and is made up of many different garden rooms.  The garden is now in the hands of the very talented Kennetha "Posy" Krehbiel.  For more information about the garden go HERE

This sprawling garden sits on 5 acres and every nook of this space has a vignette or a path leading your eye to the next location.  Though it may seem like a very formal space with neatly kept hedges, the borders were anything but.  Many of the beds were organized by succession planting and anything and everything that is blooming for July was squeezed in there!  I thoroughly enjoyed that there were unexpected components to the garden as well.  There were several gardens existing in more natural settings among the wooded areas of the property.  So come on along with me as we tour this magnificent space!

  3. STUNNING!!!!!! Really, this is such a beautiful garden!!!!!!!! You must have thought that you had stepped into another world!!! There are far too many wonderful things for me to comment on, but I loved those grass steps going up between the borders, and the outdoor dining area would be such fun to sit in and have a meal with friends wouldn't it. Everything really is so beautiful, and so well cared for. Thank you sooooo much for taking us along. Just wonderful!!!!!!!!!! xx

  9. Oh Nicole - you must have thought you had died and gone to heaven. Looks like a garden right out of England. I think I would just like to plop myself down there and never leave. I was going to tell you what I liked best, but as every picture rolled on, I lost myself in the loveliness of it all. I think what I liked the most, or maybe it was just so unusual was the scalloped hedge. Gave such a soft feminine look to that part of the garden. Thank you so much for sharing this American garden lovliness with us. Now I know I only have to travel to Chicago and not England to see such perfect beauty.

  10. Nicole, what a fantastic place. What state is this in? (I'm not sure if you say exactly where you are, but you can email me if you want.) We sometimes motorcycle into the states and I'm going to start asking my 'Mr' to stop at gardens! LOL.

I really especially love and admire the long borders, such as the one here and others. I find myself wondering if the gardener worked to make it mainly blues and pinks at this time of year, or if that's just a happy coincidence!

  29. Oh my gosh. I wish I could have gone with you!!!! So beautiful. I seriously need an obsessive gardening buddy here to drag me to places like this. I'm such a homebody and it takes effort to get me to leave the house. That first photo of what looks like a greenhouse, with the succulent pot on a stand, had my heart going pitter patter.
