some happy for the week....
Being inspired by my friend Amy over at her lovely blog Love Made My Home to start diving into yarn. There are many joys in her space and working with yarn is one of them. Her most recent stunning creation is this blanket....
It has pushed me to work harder at crochet as it is my goal to one day make one like this!
My only wish is that she lived closer so that we could sit and work together!
This book....
The Layered Garden by David Culp. I won this book in a giveaway at my friend Jason's blog, Garden In A City. I have not been able to put it down as the inspiration is mesmerizing as is Jason's garden!
I wish I had a picture for this story but I don't....just trust me on this one. I have mentioned before that we have crazy squirrels in our yard. Well when looking for the beans' sand shovel my husband just happened to look up and there it was. 50 feet up in our old ash tree. Just sitting on a branch. Ha! We all just stood there (neighbors included) with our mouths open!
This happy window....
Teaching my bean to weave on our homemade cardboard loom...

Hope that your weekend is full of happy little things....be back soon to share a garden treat with you!!!
I love the granny square throw, too! I really want to make one and I'm so glad you reminded me about that. Your squirrel story could be the start of a great children's tale, "Beatrix Potter style"! Love your garden photos, as always, and seeing those talented little beans of yours! Happy creating and gardening Nicole!
ReplyDeleteoh yes that blanket is inspirational, and I would love to create something so beautiful one day. Your garden is looking beautiful as always, I am loving your planting combinations. lastly I agree your baby does put together a pretty bouquet x
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking so pretty. I can't wait to see your crocheted creations, good for you getting into it. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blanket, I can crochet but not got the patience to make something that big, maybe I should have that as a winter project this year. Love the painted toe nails in the eating veggies in the garden pic :P x
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are enjoying The Layered Garden - I thought you would!
ReplyDeleteI love the little bouquet of your bean girl! And the whimsical planter, the bed with the flowerblanket. The crocheted blanket is also very beautiful........
ReplyDeleteWish you all a lovely Sunday!
I love the bouquet . . . and the blanket! My Mom taught me to crochet and I'm currently finishing a blanket she was working on when she passed away - kind of special to me. :-)
ReplyDeleteyour garden is so inspiring. The whimsical planter is my favorite! The crocheted blanket is really beautiful. I haven't crocheted for years, but I remember enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI have just requested "The Layered Garden' from my library - thanks for the recommendation. Good luck with your crochet, just keep giving yourself a target - of a square a day - they will soon add up.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you have been busy. That garden book looks nice and so does your garden. It is so cute seeing the bean on the loom. My Mother-in-law had a huge one that she worked on.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! I too want to pick up the crochet "stick thingy" and have another go after seeing Amy's blanket, just amazing. I would be just happy to make wash cloths. Your garden is looking beautiful, what is more satisfying than see your beans eating straight from the garden. And it sounds like you have a cheeky squirrel in your garden, I wonder what else he is helping himself too??? Happy too week to you gorgeous friend xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking wonderful Nicole and I adore the happy window pic xxx
ReplyDeleteThat book looks divine, I love gardens like that. I'm seeing crochet everywhere at the moment, it makes me feel quite inspired too. I hope you have a lovely Sunday. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteThat blanket is lovely but I am finding it too hot to do any crocheting at the moment, a heavy woollen blanket over your knees in this weather - no thanks. The book looks as though it will be full of inspiration for you - I can remember weaving like that when I was a little girl, such memories. Thank you for sharing your happies with us and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe bed of flowers wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMerle..........
Hi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all your happies today and thanks for sharing. The quilt made by Amy is beautiful and yes, wouldn't it be lovely to be able to sit and do some knitting or crocheting together.
The book looks great and congratulations for the win. Your little beans are so very talented with the floral art and the weaving. Also loved seeing your pretty blooms in the garden.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend
hugs
Carolyn
What a beautiful oasis you have there! Everything is so lush!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great imagination with the kids.....that loom is awesome. Watch one of them weave world famous textiles someday! Tell your little bean that I love, love , love her floral design! xo
Wowwwsers! Your garden is beautiful! Love the bed frame. The blanket is lovely and looks like it will be super cozy come the winter! The book looks like a fantastic and inspiring read. I am having such difficulty getting my garden to look right with the correct levels/heights and color distributions. This is hard work!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful blog post-love your garden, the blanket is lovely, and how fun with the little mini loom-love that-enjoy your weekend
ReplyDeleteOoh...that book looks amazing! I'll have to look into getting it! Nic, your garden is always so beautifully lush and green! YOUR designs are amazing! I love how I learn about new plants from you. I'm not sure if the Golden Japanese Spikenard thrives where I am, but if it does, I might give it a whirl! I learn so much from you! xoxo Jen
ReplyDeleteI love all your happy pictures! Such great things to enjoy, my kids did a loom like that once I should bust it out, it is so fun to have stuff like that. I love the blanket too, crocheting is pretty easy but changing all the colors... she did an amazing job on it, wow! Love your planters too, and I just saw your trip post, how fun for you! Great motto, I think I should adopt that... Hugs Nicole!
ReplyDeleteLove your "happy window' and the flower bed in side of the old bed frame is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI can crochet the granny squares - it's sewing in all the ends that gets me. Might try some washcloths though. Beautiful summer bouquet from your girl xxx
ReplyDeleteThe photos look gorgeous! I love the flowers :)

I love the granny afghan. I hope to get some more crochet/knit time in this next weekend or later. I'm just getting caught up with reading blog posts.
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, I am so happy to meet you . . . your blog is beautiful. I too am wanting to learn to crochet a granny square blanket. My Mom taught me forty years ago, but I didn't stick with it and I have forgotten how it's done. I love the homey look of them. Your garden photos are beautiful . . . love the photo of the "Flower Bed", how creative is that?
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower,
Connie :)

Nicole, your garden is amazing, you definitely have a green thumb. I love the cardboard loom, a perfect way to learn to weave. You can make one from a piece of wood and some nails too. I love Amy and you are right she is indeed an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Wow is that bedspread beautiful! I like the looks of layering in the garden, but just not quite sure how to do it. What the heck were those squirrels going to shovel? A messy nest? lol... Your beans are so lucky to have such a creative mom! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely pictures of what looks like such a wonderful space - you must enjoy spending time there, it looks so calm and peaceful. looking forward to seeing your crochet ventures!! xx
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like you have some crazy squirrels!
ReplyDeleteI love your garden 'bed', I've seen it done so many times but something has always seemed off about them...but you've nailed it! So peaceful and inviting - way to go!
ReplyDeletethat blanket is amazing. my best friend's mom had these amazing crochet blankets. i would so love one in my home. i've been trying to teach myself how to crochet and knit but it just ain't happening :) and that red window is just the cutest. i love it! so much character.
ReplyDeleteLove all of these! I want a red window now :). And your little girl's bouquets--so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful happies, what a full and happy life! Your daughter's posy is just darling, she must have green thumbs just like her mama! Good luck with your crocheting journey, you'll find many willing advisers and so much inspiration here in blogland, do you follow Attic 24? Lucy is a fab crocheter, there are lots of lovely pictures and tutorials. xxx
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that afghan. Although I haven't done it years, I do know how to crochet. Knitting, on the other hand, is impossible. My hands won't work as a team! I can't read a crochet pattern, though, so that's on my bucket list of things to learn.
ReplyDeleteJust the cover of your new book looks enticing!
Is that happy window yours? The curtain is adorable.
Have you taught the kids to finger knit? Hours of contentment and foot after foot of miniature scarves. :) Or "ribbon" for Xmas and birthday gifts!!!
There's nothin' better than a kid-made bouquet. Seriously, that is one of life's sweet pleasures. I keep mini bottles on the window sill behind the kitchen sink for stems that inevitably come home. I love them.
You have lots of happies this week Nicole! Amy's Afghan is gorgeous isn't it, she is so talented! I know what you mean, it makes me want to learn crochet too. I have heard it's quite simple once you get the hang of it, but it looks rather complicated to me! Ha ha. I love that happy window and of course, the stunning garden photos will always a happy sight! Have a great week! :)
