number five...a trip to the mountains

So we checked off number five from our summer list.  A trip to the mountains with the beans.  We just got home from Wyoming and it was an adventure!  Can it really be called anything less when traveling with three children under the age of five!  I think the trick to traveling with kids is looking for those magical moments and realizing that being on a vacation doesn't mean you won't have melt downs, whining and tired kids.

So with the expect nothing and appreciate everything approach (my new life mantra!)  we had an outstanding trip!   Targhee Fest is a music festival that was introduced to us by my family who journeyed out last year.  They had such a wonderful time we decided to head out with them this time around.  A small festival with kid friendly activities.  Craft cabin, swimming, horseback riding, euro jumping, and the great outdoors!

{so much wildlife and this lady hanging by the side of the road}

{my bean and her cousin front row for the show}

 {playing with rocks}

{the guys tent}

{simple combination....lady's mantle, catmint, poppies, and creeping jenny}

{an awesome dad taking his beans for a hike}

{some of my family kicking back}

It was worth the trip!

Happy making, baking, and growing this week folks!

  2. This must have been a fun holiday for you all. Music, hiking, playing what else do you want. When I think of Wyoming I always see in my imagination green pastures as far as you can see, but I see there is much more, haha. When I see the picture of your husband hiking with a bean on his shoulder, in my memory I see my husband walking with youngest daughter on his shoulder, she would never walk.
    Enjoy summertime with your sweet beans!

  5. Aw, now I want to go on a trip to the mountains!!! So much fun being close to nature. I love the 'expect nothing and appreciate everything' approach, I'll have to remember that for when I travel with little A!

  6. Hi Nicole,

    Looks like you had a fun family holiday away and I enjoyed seeing your wonderful photos. Traveling with little ones can be hard when you hear a little voice say " are we there yet" ? Remember those days.
    I was in Wyoming back in 1980 and went to Yellowstone park and loved the wilderness.
    Enjoy the rest if the week
    Hugs

  8. Looks like a wonderful vacation Nicole. Nice and laid back, probably the opposite of Chicago. When I get out on an old country road that leads to the town where I grew up, I always find myself wondering why I live in the city. Your lovely photos make me feel that way and long for a quieter, more peaceful pace.

  11. Oh, how wonderful! What a great trip. You all will remember it for always. I have a beautiful candle on my sewing machine, that has birch bark on the sides, that I bought at a little shop in Cody, Wyoming! I was there a few years ago with my husband on a bike trip....we carefully wrapped the candle and brought it back in the saddle bag. ;) The country there was absolutely breathtaking. (It was Montana we visited but took a side trip to Wyoming.)

  18. It looks like a GREAT trip!! What great memories you all shared! Did you get any new kid craft ideas from the 'craft cabin?' Thanks for sharing your pictures. I've never heard of the festival and it looked like a lot of relaxed fun!

  19. It looks like everyone had a great time and your pictures are so pretty. We had two and they were a year apart and I remember whenever we planned on going anywhere we doubled the time to get there and back. Sometimes the places between home and where you really wanted to go is just as fun.

  26. You have the right attitude when it comes to travelling with kids. Judy and I have gone to Wyoming a few times - once with the kids. Her grandparents lived in Evanston, in the SW corner of the state. We didn't go to any concerts, but we saw a rodeo and dinosaur digs. Beautiful place. Looks like you all had lots of fun.

  27. Looks like a wonderful trip! and you are so right - accepting and knowing the adventure will still come with normal child behaviour makes a difference! Hope the music was awesome and you all felt wonderfully relaxed xx

  31. What an excellent mantra Nicole, just beautiful! A really good theory to live by, and especially for a trip, I try not to get too excited before we go away now, so that whatever happens, it's more than i was expecting! It looks like you all had a fab time at Targhee! We go to a festival every year, the Green Man in the Brecon Becons in Wales, it's just sooo beautiful there and very family friendly, i'm looking forward to the day that we have kids and can take them along. have a beautiful weekend, xxx

It's trip like these that they will remember forever. Have a great weekend, Nicole! xx
