side yard SOS...take 2!

Our side yard is coming along!  I can't say that it is lush and green and looking like this yet.....

But some changes have been made to create a private garden room.

Some before shots...

And some progress...

fence and arbor installed

I planted a "silhouette"  which is a tall narrow tree to screen our neighbor's upper windows.

Leveled the ground after removing our raised veggie box and started adding some stones for stepping.

I found a bunch of bricks that were buried so I started using them for edging along this bed where I moved a "Blushing Bride" hydrangea, a pot of Impatiens,  and several Solomon Seal.

I have to take more photos of what I have accomplished in the area but one of the beans dropped mom's camera!  Hence the pictures from my phone!!

until then....Happy Gardening!

  8. Great progress! I love the fencing and the arbor ... good foundations for what will be a cool shady retreat. One of my backyard neighbours planted a row of mature tall skinny maples, and they've all filled in and grown to massive height in the 8 years or so they planted them. It's an amazing screening! 11. Your outdoor room is coming along nicely! The fence and arbor are impressive and the silhouette tree will be appreciated by both you and your neighbors!! I'm so glad you found those bricks and are reusing them! When we built our home in a field, we had lots of large rocks. The kids and I have great memories of pulling their red wagon around "collectin' rocks." Then they helped me decide where to make our flower beds! I've had to dig them up a couple of times over the years b/c they tend to sink, but we made good choices together! Have a wonderful weekend!!!

  15. You have been a busy girl! I have some of that Solomon's Seal, I think. I got the start from my great aunt years and years ago. She was a master gardener before it was cool! Can't wait to see the end results!

  21. I love your new fence and arbor. So nice to have the privacy and the boundary wall to give you the feeling of an outside room. I'm sure by spring it will have more of the look you are hoping for, but it's always so hard to wait for everything to fill in.
