As I watch my dahlias emerge and eagerly wait to see how they will unfold, I was shocked by the surreal appeal of my dahlia "Mystery Day." It made me think of an artist I studied back in my days at art school. Salvador Dali is best known for his dramatic and bizarre images which were always fun to dissect for their meaning.

I can't help but notice that Dali is similar in both spelling and pronunciation as dahlia. Though they are both surreal to me, I do have an obvious favorite!
Happy making, baking and growing!!! Here is to a wonderful weekend!

That is a beautiful Dahlia! Love the Dali, too. Don't you wish you could melt time? Happy weekend to you! Hugs xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour dahlia is lovely Nicole, so unusual to have the two colours and for the contrast to be so great between the white and the deep red. Beautiful and lovely photography.
ReplyDeleteI have grown 'Mystery Day' before and lost it the first winter we lived here. Thank you for reminding me how beautiful it was. I can see why it is your favorite!! Is that your salvia in the background? That is a great pairing! I hope you have a fantastic weekend too!

ReplyDeleteWhat amazing color in your flowers.
I jut noticed your "my garden diaries" button - oh, I want to get out my Sharpie pens and doodle on that button.
What beautiful flowers! Just found your blog, I hope it inspires me to do more with my garden. All the best from Ireland, Maria
ReplyDeleteA rich, sultry dahlia! Dramatic, as they always are. I only grew one dahlia this year, a low small mounder called Black Beauty that bloomed dark red starting in June and is still going. I always thought dahlias came out in September like yours, but my little one seemed to want to show off all summer.
ReplyDeleteDali ALWAYS fascinated me- Don't you wonder HOW the mind of that man worked? Your dahlias are just gorgeous!! Thank you for finding me. I am your newest follower and am looking forward to getting to know you. I'll put you on my sidebar this morning! xo Diana

I never understood that painting but perhaps that's the point. :o) But I do love dahlias although I gave up growing them years ago. But yours are so pretty I need to try again. Is that a short dahlia or one of the really tall ones? I kept growing the giant ones - in pots because I am a super genius like that - and they blew over, were eaten by slugs, etc. What's your secret?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dahlia! And i like the comparison to Dali.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the dahlia. I've never grown these flowers, but I really should give them a try sometime. They are all so unique, and so beautiful. I love the coloring of yours.
ReplyDeleteA truly amazing dahlia Nicole ... it looks like it's been dipped in white chocolate! maybe it has? Wendy ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, yours is the second post I've seen about dahlias in the past day. I want them in my garden!!! Think I read that if you can grow tomatoes, you can grow dahlias.
ReplyDeleteDiane
