I try to find any little excuse to get out in the garden this time of year even if nothing is growing. So when I heard that the greens were in at my local nursery, I zipped on over.
Typically I just cut from my own garden but I like going to see all the inspiration...again anything to get me around plants!!! This year I did walk out with a bundle of Blue Coned Cedar branches to add to my boxwood pots by the front door. I just stuck them in around the boxwood and I cut some branches from my red twig dogwood out back and I'm done!
(Would you believe they wanted 13 bucks for branches!!!!)
(Please excuse the porch...I haven't gotten around to sweeping with my second bean down with pneumonia!)
A little winter planting!
I hope all is well where you are.
My thoughts and prayers are with all the families impacted by the tornadoes on Sunday.
Very pretty! I like the red door and red mail box. Red gives a little zip to all the greenery.
ReplyDeleteYour nursery looks like a fun place for inspiration. We have one large nursery which is a bit too commercial in their displays, but they do have a great assortment. The smaller nursery has wonderful plants, but not much variety.
ReplyDeleteI am still planting pansies in our yard to give us some color.
Very pretty and inspiring. I can see why you wanted to visit and I bet it smelled really nice there with all those greens. I love that red door setup. Very striking. I don't usually start fooling with anything outside until after Thanksgiving, especially since there are still tons of leaves to get up. At least the storms and high winds from the other night finally brought most of them down. Time for hopefully the last clean up.

The cutest pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty display must put some greenery on my red door, but $13 does seem rather a lot.
ReplyDeleteMerle............
Pretty mailbox! Okay, now you're getting me in the mood to decorate for Christmas!
ReplyDelete~Tanya
Such festive color! I have to day, though, that I can definitely wait for Christmas to come around. I need to wrap my head around one holiday at a time! ; }
ReplyDeletelooks wonderful-that does sound like way too much money for sure
ReplyDeletehugs for your little bean
What a wonderful store to visit and get ideas. Love your porch idea.
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty, Nicole.
ReplyDeleteYour garden centre looks wonderful! We have a great summertime garden centre, but they never have enough live winter greenery for my liking. Your pot looks really nice with the cedar branches draped in it like that. And your mailbox is all Christmassy already! Enjoy your outdoor decorating Nicole :) Wendy x
ReplyDeleteYour pots look lovely, I am even more inspired now to get rid of the pumpkins from the doorstep and make up some pots like these. Thank you for the ideas. Sorry to hear that your little bean is not well, I hope that a return to good health comes very soon. Take care of yourself in the meantime, and I hope that you have as good a week as you can. xx
ReplyDeleteI love all the arrangements they had at the nursery and yes, I do believe they wanted thirteen dollars for branches! Out in the country here, people put up signs selling their wreaths and greenery and I think I'll check a couple of them out. I have a few ideas that I need to do very economically. Your boxwood looks great all dressed up. And I hope your little guy is feeling better. What a bummer he is so sick!
ReplyDeleteThey look really festive! I would love to check out that garden center, preferably with you because you could teach me a lot about this stuff!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty Nicole! I don't think I would pay that much for that greenery either. I am like you ....just go out back and cut them down! Looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteHope your little ones feels better soon!
Hugs, Shari
Now thats the kind of nursery I want to wander through! I just love the smell of fresh cut pine boughs! The winter arrangements look very festive on your porch. Hope your little one is better soon! Take care!!

I look for every excuse NOT to be in the yard this time of year. LOL It's about time to go out pickin', though. I'll need greens for the Christmas deco that is most likely comin' out early this year. I've got the bug.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all the festive arrangements at the nursery. Isn't it amazing what they charge for greenery and even the twigs? Your arrangements are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh no, hope your little bean is better!! Love the planters, super pretty and wintery.. oh wait... is it almost winter ALREADY!???? this is going way too fast!

ReplyDeleteYour nursery pictures are an inspiration! Thanks for sharing, now to get to work.....! Hope your little bean is feeling better!!
ReplyDeleteYour planter box looks awesome! I love the box painted in black (I am so used to seeing them in white) - you're giving me ideas. ;) Hope your poor kiddo is better very soon...pneumonia is no fun at all! Hugs!
ReplyDeletewhat lovely eye candy! My neighbour was doing some logging and they have left a huge pile of pine and fir boughs along our road - now I know what to do with them!
ReplyDeletewhat great inspiration! now I want to go hiking around to forage evergreens! love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole: It's been a while since I've been able to visit your blog--just been busy with life, but I wanted to stop in and say hi! Your winter container is gorgeous, and I love it with your red mailbox. I am going to use some tall sticks in mine this year, too, but I think they're going to be white sticks, to blend in better with my entryway colors. Take care, and I hope your little one is feeling better soon as well!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh this is so perfect! I HAVE 2 of those black planters in your first picture flanking our front doors and have been wondering what kind of stuff i could put into them to make an arrangement that brings HEIGHT, COLORS and LIFE to it! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeletei love spending time at the nurseries near by. i have 2 that i frequent for different reasons. It's so calming for me ;)
ReplyDeleteI love what you did on the porch it looks so pretty! I am sorry to hear about your little one, I will pray for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteBranches look great in your planter--love how you added a little color :). I think I'm going to get boxwood for my planters when I get a chance (uhh, I think I already told you that last time I saw your boxwood planters!)
ReplyDeleteLots of inspiration, Nicole - and your planter looks very nice with your finds. I love the fragrance of fresh greens. Hope your sweet little one recovers soon! That's scary when they get so sick. Sending healing thoughts and prayers. Hugs xo K
ReplyDeleteIt's still so hard to believe the holidays are literally around the corner! Seems I completely missed fall, sheesh! I need to make a new wreath for the winter, have no idea where I put my other one... senility, lol! A trip to Michaels perhaps is in order for some little decorations and I definitely need ribbon... I'll take a photo or two once I get it made. Love your little planter and sorry to hear you little bean is down with pneumonia! YIKES! That is indeed a rough beginning to the winter!
ReplyDeleteHugs and stay warm my sweet blogging sister!

I hope your little one gets better soon. I would love to spend time at the garden center also. But it would all dry out so quickly over here.
ReplyDeleteI have two large stands of redtwig dogwoods, and your post is reminding me I need to go cut some branches! What a simple and effective addition they are to your planters.
ReplyDeleteHope your bean gets well soon!! Being sick is no fun! The greens look great, I bet it smells wonderful! I love pinecones and the smell they put off!
ReplyDeleteGreat inspiration Nicole. I always get my greens at the grocery store which is way cheaper than at a nursery. Nurseries are great though for those more special items like magnolia leaves. Hope your sick little bean is better soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, what a nice display of winter greenery and Christmas decoration your nursery pulled up! So beautiful and inspiring to look at. I like your decoration of your boxwood container very much, simple and clean, just very tasteful. Lucky you that you just can go out into your garden and cut a few red twig dogwood branches instead of having to put up with overpriced store bought ones. Hope your children are overcoming the pneumonia quickly!
ReplyDeleteChristina
Hi Nicole, Your display looks really great, the prices they try on, honestly! I had to do a google currency exchange before I went - no way! Love to you and your little people, Jo x
ReplyDeleteLooks so beautiful and Christmasy!!! I think it's because of Alex...this year I'm particularly excited and looking forward to Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so happy and green and Christmassy! Hope your little ones are getting better :)

ReplyDeleteO, beautiful! I love visiting nurseries, though here it's usually a sweltering, sweaty experience lol!
