A place to clear the head and take in a slower pace. Something I have been needing with all of the busy that surrounds daily life. Hope you find a little bit of magic this week too. Happy June!

day trip
With summer approaching and school coming to a close we were able to start exploring today. I must say that I've never been to the farm we visited this morning and I have lived in this area my whole life. What a treat when you can find a bit of magic right out your own backdoor. Kline Creek Farm is a working farm that has been setup to model how the farm looked and ran in the 1890's. The summer kitchen was in full swing on the property and women dressed in 1890's attire were busy baking cinnamon rolls. The beans took in story time under the tree and were able to select books that once belonged to the Kline children. After helping gather eggs from the chicken coop the beans learned about how all the meals that are made daily on the farm come only from what they grow and raise. A lesson we've been talking about as my bean boy collected greens from our garden to make a salad for dinner last night. The flower gardens were packed with Irises, Columbines, ferns, Alliums and Corydalises. In the center of the property they had a large vegetable garden growing where all of the food harvested goes to feed the workers and volunteers who run the farm.
A place to clear the head and take in a slower pace. Something I have been needing with all of the busy that surrounds daily life. Hope you find a little bit of magic this week too. Happy June!

ReplyDeleteWow such an interesting place, it's beautiful! Isn't it funny how there are always local finds we never visit and when we do it's like what have we been doing, this place is great! I love this farm it gives you a glimpse of how people lived at a different time. Hard work but a slower pace, it is calming isn't it. Everything looks so lush and green and pretty. What a great place to visit with the Beans!!! This sounded and looked like so much fun! Your photos of the gardens were amazing. Love the lushness and colors! You'll have to take the Beans back later in the summer. I bet it will look a lot different. I'm glad you found this little gem! Have a wonderful week, my friend!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful experience for you and the kids. Reminds me of a farm near Alton we used to stay at with the kids when they were small.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that house. And the property. I die. How funny that we both visited local treasures for the first time.
ReplyDeleteThe farm looks gorgeous. We love our farmstays, so relaxing and educational.
ReplyDeleteWow! It sounds like an amazing place - my girls loved visiting places where they dress in period costume and re-enact the lifestyle; I'm sure the beans had a ball. It's always a joy to discover something new and lovely nearby. The farmhouse looks incredible too. Here's to lots more exciting trips over the Summer. xx
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that yellow and green house, the gardens and those precious Beans.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky that you found this place which looks idyllic and somewhere for the beans to enjoy. It is good that these places still exist to remind us of how things used to be. Wonderful. I wish I could have been there with you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Nicole and wonderful memories for your children. Enjoy your summer!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful farm. I love it. The last time I was in a similar place was too long ago and far away in Germany. Enjoy the month of June. I'm sure you've got some great gardening plans in place. xx

ReplyDeleteThat must have been a wonderful day for the Beans and also for you of course. The farmhouse looks like a great place, the flowerborders are a delight to see and the vegetables so healthy.
ReplyDeleteWish you all a lovely week!
A great idea, Nicole. It's such a good thing when children understand where there food comes from and even better when they have a chance to grow or harvest it. You're a great mom to give your little ones this experience from early in life. They will always remember it and carry it through as they get older.
ReplyDeleteLooks a lovely place to visit, inside and outside. Interesting, too. Great that your children are soaking all this up! Have a good week Nicole. Sam x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day trip! I love going to old reenactment villages and farms to take a trip back in time! It's all so fascinating and makes me realize how spoiled we are today. Is that a good thing? Perhaps if we had less time for distraction and worked with our hands more we might, just might feel more of a sense of satisfaction and happiness? Well anyway, it's just a thought! Thanks for taking me along on the trip via all your wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Beth
Dear Nicole, sounds like the beans and you had a fun day on the farm! I think it is so important to show kids how vegetables are grown and life stock is raised so that they have an idea how dinner gets on the table, other than buying it from the grocery store :-). I love the farm house, sooo... beautiful! And the surrounding ornamental gardens are very pretty, too. I admire their dense lush planting style.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great rest of the week!
Christina
What a beautiful farm. Even the interior is alluring. I bet the kids were thrilled with their adventure. I love finding awesome (and educational) places in our "backyard", too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a vocational school near by, that has animals and does open days often; we take The Cute there to see the baby animals but once she is older, we will visit farms and pick fruit. :)
It's amazing how much care is in the farm you visited - free range animals and even flowers along the paths. Fantastic!
What a beautiful farm, Nicole! The beans must have had a wonderful time checking everything out! The gardens are really pretty. My Dad grew up on a working farm like this - he loved to tell us stories....My favorite book that describes life on a working farm is 'Farmer Boy', by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It's so nice to teach children where food really comes from! I hope your summer is full of fun and exploration! xo Karen
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic day out ! The children must have had the best time ever! So much to explore and discover!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to visit for your field trip. Looks like the Beans had a fabulous time. That house is incredible.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Great family scenes there Nicole. I am in love with those deep borders, I dream of those. Thanks for dropping by my blog. Jo x
ReplyDeleteThe farm and its gardens look completely charming and how lovely to find somewhere new to go with the children that is fun for and interesting for all of you. Your Beans are adorable, I loved the photo of them marching through the veggie patch checking the crops. Here's to a great summer ahead for all growers!
ReplyDeleteVery nice series ! I love the yellow house !
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool day trip! Sounds like fun :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous place to visit, I love places like these. It does look like somewhere you might find in England with the slight exception of the house style, it looks so green and has so many plants I recognise! I bet you'll be back there again soon with your beans! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteA wonderful little trip for all...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful farm. It's so idyllic that it looks like something from a movie! Thank you for sharing - I wish I could visit in person.
ReplyDeleteYou are raising some pretty cute 'beans'!
Are they taking any live in volunteers? I could totally uproot and move into this place. What a beautiful, dreamy house and gardens!
ReplyDeleteI love places like that! I'm planning out a road trip for next summer, and I think I have at least half a dozen living history type places on the itinerary right now. Which might be overkill ;). Lovely pictures--looks like your summer's off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteThat house, those gardens!! That mass of irises!! Thanks for sharing part of your world with me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous place! I love slow, quiet places like that. :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great learning experience for you all! And that place???? Oh my goodness, is it gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place, and Kline is in my family tree, but we were Iowa farmers, still you never know!
ReplyDeleteI love when I (or tanya) finds a new fun spot in our Vegas backyard! Life is just one big adventure, glad you got out to enjoy!
What a lovely day out! Thanks for sharing your joy & cool photos too!
ReplyDeleteI would have happily joined you all! 😀
My kids are a bit older (all boys) 16, 13 and 10, but we went there last year for a rare livestock breeds show. My oldest wants to be a wildlife biologist/zoologist. They all really loved it and so did I. It's great for the kids to see how people lived in the 1800s. I'm only 40, but was born in Europe and we still had an outhouse. In my short life, It seems like I've lived in 2 different centuries. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I want to go there! Gorgeous place! xoxo Jen
ReplyDeleteWow what a lovely place. The Beans looked like they were having a blast. What wonderful memories you are making for them. Cheers, Beckie
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole: Just checking in. Hoping you are doing o.k and its just life being busy being the reason you haven't written a post for awhile. I am sure the 'Beans' had fun last night for Halloween. Just wanted to say you're posts and positive energy is missed in blog land. Take care, Beckie
