We woke up to this...
The snow keeps coming as the beans are busying making a family of snow people in the front garden. I've been shaking the weight of the heavy snow off of our trees as we have lost a few branches from the storm.
So as we dig ourselves out and wait to see if the blizzard warnings they are talking about later in the day will go into effect, I'm getting some plants on the list for spring.
Lucky Charm Windflower
This Anemone is more compact then other Anemones for part shade.
Black Truffle Cardinal Flower
This perennial has dramatic dark chocolate foliage that will make a nice contrast for some of the sunny spots in my garden.
Forever Pink Phlox
I'm looking forward to getting some of these in my space as they are a variety known for no mildew as well as being compact. Blooms from June to October.
Ruby Slippers Oak-Leaved Hydrangea
A compact selection for my small garden with amazing foliage.

I'm off to knock more snow off the limbs of my trees and shrubs! Wishing you a lovely Sunday!
Happy Making, Baking, and Growing!
Love pics of the bean playing!
ReplyDeleteYou got some good packing snow!! We got a heavy snowfall on Thursday, but then it turned bitterly cold, so the snow turned light and fluffy. Love your flower choices for the gardens, especially the first one. I was going to do some knitting on this cold day, but my husband has decided to put up a new ceiling light and it's not going well. Better be close at hand to help out where I can ... the air is blue in here at the moment :[

It all looks quite magical, and I love that you're inside in the warm planning your spring and summer planting. I hope you manage to avoid any damage to your trees. Stay safe, CJ xx
ReplyDeleteNothing more fun than playing in the snow, fresh snow is so exciting, so many possibilities!! Love your flower and plant pictures. I really have to start researching plants too., besides squash seeds lol!!! It's snowing here today too. It's sure pretty! Have a super week my friend!
ReplyDeleteThose snow pics look amazing (While I'm sweltering in summer pregnant heat!). So magical xxx
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness . . . I could not imagine (of course I'm born and raised in sunny FLA). I am outside gardening in 70 degrees weather today.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just beautiful . . . I always love to see your "beans" ~ so precious.
Have a wonderful week. Stay warm!
They look like they're having such a good time. I love your photos. The flowers are so pretty, I know you will have a gorgeous garden in just a few months!
ReplyDeleteI know it sucks when you're living in it, but it is sooooo dang pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat snowy pictures, your beans look as though they're having such fun! Fab plant choices for spring, I love that anemone. Have a super week ahead and stay warm!! xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of the snow, you have so much of it, can imagine the fun for the beans. Also nice to make inside a wishlist of plants for the coming season, I love that oak-leaved Hydrangea, it has a beautiful colour.
ReplyDeleteWish you all a lovely snowy week!
Beautiful snow and so much fun for little beans! : D
ReplyDeleteWow, that was quite a snow fall, what more could your children wish for - fun to play out in and make snowmen. It looks magical. What better weather for you than to stay indoors planning your garden for the coming season, such lovely plants you have chosen. Take care and keep warm my friend.
ReplyDeleteLots of fun in the snow, It's a shame that you've had some damage to the trees. A lovely choice of plants. We have lots of candy pink phlox - too many, so we've given some to our daughter for her newly- designed garden. The hydrangea is unusual. I hope the week ahead goes well.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite some snow you have there! Love the photo of the Beans playing and your beautiful choice of plants. I hope your lovely trees don't come to any more harm. Stay warm and happy garden dreaming. x
ReplyDeletelooks like allot of snow fun for the Beans-we have yet to have any snow here this winter-a little would be nice-but not too much lol
ReplyDeleteLove your flower choices-so colorful have an awesome week ahead
sighhhhhh.....I am so looking forward to autumn and winter...I am totally over the heat here
ReplyDeleteOh my look at all that snow! Glad to see that you and your beans are making the best of the situation and having fun with it. I thought of you when I saw the news of the blizzard hitting the Chicago area this weekend. It looks pretty intense and I hope you and your family are staying warm and safe. Hopefully your trees will fare well through it as well. Good luck with knocking off the snow and enjoy the rest of your weekend Nicole!
ReplyDeleteDear Nicole, yikes, that is a lot of snow! It looks beautiful and I am sure your beans have fun playing in it! Great plant choices! I especially love the pink anemone 'Lucky Charm Windflower', a variety that I haven't heard off before. The pink phlox also looks great.
ReplyDeleteHope you the weather behaves and you stay safe and warm and your trees don't suffer any further damage.
Warm regards,
Christina
We're getting that storm tomorrow. Stay warm, friend!

Hi Nicole, It looks about the same at my place as yours! Beautiful, but I like the flowers even better. You have chosen some lovely plants for your garden. I especially like the anemone.
ReplyDeleteS much snow. oh so cold!!! Love those anemones, just beware they spread.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the beans having fun. I hope the snow people withstand the blizzard. I've been immersed in garden catalogues for the last few days. Supper has been late once a twice when I lost track of time. I need a bean or two to keep me alert.
ReplyDeleteWow, Nicole, you all are getting a ton of snow! We're getting just a few inches but it's windy and very cold. I planted some Cardinal Flowers this fall and can't wait to see them next summer! I don't think it has chocolate colored foliage, though. Stay warm and safe this week!
ReplyDeleteIt must be so cool there! Beautiful 'white' tree. The anemone is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSnow fun for your little ones:) We used to have lots of snow a few years back but now the two girls are in their teens, they're not interested in building snow people and there's not much snow for the past years either?!! Enjoy the fun with your beans :)
ReplyDeleteLooks so fun in the photos:)
ReplyDeleteWe had also snow, but also partly rain, and it is so wet everywhere. I am waiting for the spring and flowers.
Hello Nicole,
ReplyDeleteWe are sure that the snow is becoming a little tiresome got you now but, as for us, we have yet to see any substantial amounts of the white stuff. This is most unusual for this time of year. Please, therefore, can you send some snow in our direction?
The Japanese Anemones are such elegant flowers and are very welcome for their appearance so late in the season. Perhaps you grow it but Verbena Bonariensis also flowers at that time and they are a fabulous combination.
Whoa! What a lot of snow!!! It looks beautiful, but incredibly cold no doubt. The beans snowmen are so cute aren't they!! Hope that your trees and shrubs and other plants are all OK! xx
ReplyDeleteI really like the snow family:)), the flowers at the end give us hope of the colours to come, keep warmxx
ReplyDeletewow! so much snow! stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteAll that snow is beautiful, Nicole. The pictures of all the blooming plants make me anxious to get out and start planting something. It is a blustery day here, but sunny nonetheless. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
ReplyDeleteLooks like our backyard right about now.......Wiarton Willy says we are having an early spring but I am not sure if I believe him. Cheers to fun in the snow with the beans. xoxox
ReplyDeleteWell, I think you yard looks lovely bathed in white, but I don't have to shovel or feel the cold.
ReplyDeleteI love the little project you did in the closet - clever!
OHHHH - I am smiling from ear to ear. I know you probably don't want to hear how my heart misses snow, so I will tell you how much I love those Beans in the snowsuits, and their handiwork at the bottom. THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY DAY, friend! XOXOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteI bet those little ones had the best time. I can see all the red cheeks and wet mittens from here.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
A lot of the limbs on our big old Japanese Yew were bent to the ground with snow. I knocked the snow off but the limbs lifted just a bit. Wonder if they will get back to where they were with time.
ReplyDeleteKeep warm and be safe. I love the snow people. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh wow that is a ton of snow! I am always out knocking the snow off the trees and so on when it snows here. I never understand why people let their arborvitaes fall over when it takes so little effort to shake the snow off of them. You have a good list of plants for this spring. I love the oak leaf hydrangea but it seems like it is a really big bush from the photo. Stay safe out there.
ReplyDeleteNice photos all them, the ones with the snow and the ones with the flowers :)
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
Lluisa xoxo
oh what fun the kids are having in the snow. Thanks for the pretty flower pictures. Spring isn't too far away now.
ReplyDelete*giggles* oh my so much lovely snow...I want to play! Lovely new bright and cheerful plants, spring is on her way :) xx
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers to dream about....
ReplyDeleteLove the hydrangea on your wish list...the snow looks delightful! We have not had much snow this winter and I miss it.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Look at all of that snow! I love dreaming about my garden and flowers and edibles! xoxo Jen
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing to think about on a snowy winter day! We were gone when the snowstorm hit. Actually got delayed in Miami for a day. What a surprise to see everything so weighed down with snow! Your yard sure does look pretty though! I bet the kids had a blast playing in the snow. It was great for snowmen!
ReplyDeleteThe snow certainly made everything gorgeous!! Love the windflowers as well!
ReplyDeleteNicole....it looks about as snowy there as it is here. I too am dreaming of summer and my garden. Your "Beans" snow people are adorable. Cheers to a good week. Beckie xo
