Last weekend I took the beans to see the play Mary Poppins....
Winds from the east....Mist comin' in....Like somethin' was brewin', about to begin...Can't put me finger on what lies in store...
The change in the air is---------I'm going back to school for garden design!
There is a Garden Design Certificate Program at the Chicago Botanic Garden that I will be starting this spring. I haven't taken classes since I finished my masters when I was in my twenties so to say that I'm nervous is an understatement. But I'm also EXCITED! One class at a time...new things to learn...a challenge with 3 beans....yes! But I am determined to cross that finish line! I'm not sure where the road will take me on this journey, but I'm ready to grow!
Here is to the road of life friends! Any changes brewing by you????
Happy Making, Baking, and Growing!!!!!

ReplyDeleteFYI,

--Steve became a full time artist at 55.
--My sister started her career with Universal Studios at 37 and rose to senior executive - still working by choice at 68.
--Our son left a position teaching in the School of Education at UCLA to return to school for a math degree - he will graduate this May.
It is never too late!
Or, we are just a bunch of late bloomers!
This is such exciting news. You're going to do great. I would enjoy seeing Mary Poppins on stage. My daughter's spring ballet recital music includes "A Spoonful of Sugar." :)
ReplyDeleteGrow, friend grow! How exciting, keep us all informed. Jo X
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. Good on you Nicole, you will be fine. Do what makes you happy, and remember that housework is over rated. (that's what I tell myself after a week at work)
ReplyDeleteGood for you Nicole! I went to school and took classes about 8 years ago. I had never had the priviledge of going to college, so it was a real challenge. I work for The Ohio State University, so they paid for all my 4 years of classes. It was such a good experience and a lot of hard work. The fun part is that my daughter was in college too at Ohio State and we could commiserate together about home work. So nice that you're going back for classes in an area that you are passionate about. Makes such a difference.
ReplyDeleteCindy
I'm on my 3rd adventure - you go girl! It's how you know you're alive - right? xxx

PS On a note of Mary Poppins; have you seen the movie 'Saving Mr. Banks'? It's a really, really good movie so if you haven't seen it do! We watched it recently. It makes you cry but it's a good story, and a true one (about the Author of Mary Poppins, her childhood and getting Walt Disney to make the book into a movie) :-D
This wonderful news Nicole and I wish you the best as you embark on this most exciting journey! I very nearly did the same thing years ago but went in the direction of the arts instead. I made and sold birdhouses during the '90s which I'm sure came out of my love for gardening. Many times I wonder what would have happened had I pursued the landscape design path, hence my blog serious "I'd Rather Be Gardening"! Thanks for visiting me the other day, dear friend! Its so good to know I've not been forgotten while down the rabbit hole for the past several weeks!
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, that's a wonderful news about you! Wish you the best, you can do it! Bx
ReplyDeleteNicole, I am just now getting to read your post and learn of this very exciting news! As you stated, it might be hectic at times with raising the children and being a homemaker but the time will fly and you will be there before you know it. The fact that you will be following your heart will help you to get through it. I am so happy for you and there is no question but that you will do very well. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteI checked out the Chicago Botanic Garden link and it looks like a really beautiful and special place to study. Please, keep us posted on your progress! Wishing you many blessings as you are preparing for this new adventure in your life!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Nicole--such exciting news :) I know gardening is your great passion so I'm sure you'll soak it all up and perform above and beyond your expectations. I'm really working on building my blogging/antiquing/crafting business this year with the hopes of making some real income--we'll see...wishing you many blessings...
ReplyDeleteThis new adventure will be so exciting! I know you will be a terrific garden designer, can't wait to see what you do with this, On our horizon is a new house....and new gardens down the road. We'll both have a busy year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I took several classes in that program and they were generally great. I had to stop, though, due to schedule conflicts with my current job. Look forward to hearing about your progress!
ReplyDeleteHello Friend,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you. Guess what? I am also going to be taking a course regarding gardening at the Eau Claire Master Gardeners Club. I am looking at starting my own Flower Farm. I am starting to dig in to more of the what I all need to do. I will be working with a women who already has a garden farm for a week this late spring. I am really excited.
I also hear ya...I am a mom as well. And my family time is important to me. I am praying for balance.
All the best my friend, keep me posted.

This is brilliant! How exciting. I'm sure you'll make it work – we women are great at multi-tasking and taking on more and more, especially if we love what we're doing. Look forward to hearing all about it when you have the time :-) (I love Mary Poppins – it was one of my favourite childhood films!) Sam xx
